Sacramento has been quietly growing one of its most joyful free events. The Golden Harvest Parade & Music/Dance Festival returns to Capitol Mall on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for its fifth year—and if you’ve never been, this is a genuinely good reason to make the drive downtown.
What It Is
The Golden Harvest Parade is organized by a Davis-based nonprofit whose stated mission is to bring the many ethnic communities of greater Sacramento together to celebrate unity, harmony, and peace. What that looks like in practice: a free parade down Capitol Mall followed by an afternoon of stage performances representing more than 20 cultures, a vendor fair with food trucks, and children’s activities—all at no cost to attendees.
The 2025 event featured cultural performers representing China, India, Mexico, Vietnam, Pan-Africa, Scotland, Brazil, Hawaii, Ukraine, and Pacific Island communities in a single afternoon. Organizer Wei Zhang has said attendance grows each year, with around 100 volunteers and more than 30 sponsors supporting the event. The City of Sacramento has issued a mayoral proclamation honoring it.
The Parade
The parade steps off at 11:00 AM from 9th and N Street and winds down to 9th and Capitol Mall. Past editions have included marching bands, lion dancing, martial arts performers, and equestrian rodeo riders. Two open marching groups are available for anyone who wants to participate: a Sing Along group, where participants sing along to patriotic and unity songs, and a Kids Fun group—children can march in Halloween costumes, since the event falls one week before Halloween. The Festival Stage and Vendors
After the parade, the festival continues at Capitol Mall Greens through 4:30 PM. The stage program features more than 20 cultural performing groups. Past lineups have included TOFA, Samba da Terra (Brazilian dance), Honor Kung Fu Academy, the American Legion, and the Victoria Mendoza Folkloric Group, alongside ensembles representing communities from across Asia, Latin America, Africa, Europe, and the Pacific. Food trucks round out the afternoon—recent years brought local names like Soul on a Roll and Dino Boba.
A student artwork contest, open to school districts including Sacramento Unified, Natomas, and Elk Grove, wraps up with an awards presentation in the late afternoon. Children’s activities at recent events have included origami, bookmark-making, and a robotics demonstration.
Sacramento is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States, and events like this one—alongside Día de los Muertos and the fall festival circuit—reflect that in ways a generic lifestyle event doesn’t.
Getting There
Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) provides free rides to the event. Downtown Sacramento has several parking garages within easy walking distance of Capitol Mall. Street parking along Capitol Mall and the surrounding grid fills up quickly on weekend mornings, so arriving by light rail or bus is the easier call.

Bottom Line
The Golden Harvest Parade & Music/Dance Festival is exactly the kind of event Sacramento does well: free, all-ages, and grounded in the city’s actual diversity rather than a generic theme. With 20-plus performing groups, a street parade, food trucks, and kids’ activities spread across more than six hours, it’s a full afternoon without spending a dollar. October 24 is two weeks out—worth putting on the calendar now.
