Luminiscence Sacramento 2026: Inside the Immersive Cathedral Light Show Running Through January

Most Sacramento residents have walked past the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on 11th Street without thinking much about it. From November 19 through January 2, the building becomes something different — a 360-degree video projection experience backed by a live choir, filling one of the most ornate rooms in the city with synchronized light and music for about an hour.

The show is Luminiscence, an international production now in its Sacramento Christmas run. It debuted here in September 2026 and is currently running through November 15 before a brief pause and then returning for the holiday season. If you’ve been curious but haven’t gone yet, the Christmas edition is the run worth catching — the programming shifts to match the season, and the venue’s architecture makes it particularly striking when the projections are running at full scale.

What Luminiscence Actually Is

The production uses large-scale video mapping projected directly onto the cathedral’s ceilings, walls, arches, and columns. The interior becomes the canvas — every surface is part of the display. Guests are seated inside the nave for the main show, which runs about 45 minutes. That’s preceded by a pre-show of roughly 40 minutes: live music and a walk-through exhibit in the entryway that lets people arrive early, move around, and absorb the setting before the main event begins.

Luminiscence is produced by LOTCHI (part of Banijay Live) and has staged the show in more than 20 productions across eight countries since 2023. Sacramento is one of a handful of U.S. cities to host it.

There are three ticket tiers, depending on what kind of sound accompaniment you want:

  • Luminiscence — the base tier, with recorded music and voiceover narration
  • Luminiscence Live — adds a live choir performing during the show
  • Luminiscence Live+ — the full experience, with both live choir and live orchestra

Ticket prices start at $29 on select nights for the base tier, $45 for Live, and $59 for Live+. The Christmas run also includes discounts of up to 30 percent on select dates. Children two and under are free when seated on an adult’s lap; everyone three and older needs a ticket. Tickets are booked through the Fever app or at luminiscence.com/sacramento.

Before You Go: What the Show Requires

A few logistics to know before you commit to a date:

Security lines close at showtime. Late arrivals are turned away. The venue recommends arriving up to 45 minutes early. Doors open 35 minutes before the main show begins, which gives you time to move through security, get into the pre-show area, and settle in before the house dims.

No food or drinks are sold or permitted inside. If you’re planning a night out around the show, eat before or after — there’s no concession and nothing to bring in.

The show includes strobe lights and has not been adapted for deaf or visually impaired guests. The venue notes this directly on its website.

Photography is fine for personal use. Professional equipment and tripods are not permitted. Phones are welcome.

Hats must be removed before entering the nave — this is a functioning cathedral, and the request is standard.

Getting There

The cathedral is at 1019 11th Street in downtown Sacramento. There is no dedicated parking lot. The closest garage options are along 10th and 11th Streets between J and L; sacpark.org has a real-time map of downtown facilities. The Gold Line light rail stops at 13th Street, a short walk from the entrance.

The accessible entrance is on the south side of the building, on Race Street.
