Title: My First Time Exploring the Sonoma Coast—A Must-Visit Destination

Introduction: Discovering the Beauty of the Sonoma Coast I’ve lived in Northern California for years, but somehow, I had never really explored the Sonoma Coast. A few days ago, Christine and I decided to change that. We took a drive up the coast, and I was honestly surprised by how much I’d been missing out on. The stunning views, the fresh ocean air, and the peaceful spots along the way—it made me wonder why I hadn’t done this sooner.

Best Places to Visit on the Sonoma Coast

1. Jenner, CA—A Hidden Coastal Gem

One of the best parts of the trip was stopping in Jenner, a small coastal town where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean. The second we got there, I felt like I had been missing out. The views were incredible, and the atmosphere was peaceful. We found a small café, Café Aquatica, had some fresh seafood, and just sat there taking it all in. I couldn’t believe I had never made the time to visit before.

Jenner offers a slow pace of life, friendly locals, and some of the best scenic spots along the coast. If you’re planning a trip, this is a must-visit stop along Highway 1.

2. Taking in the Sonoma Coastline

We also walked some of the trails along the coastline. There were spots where we could just sit and watch the waves hit the cliffs, and it felt like everything slowed down for a bit. No distractions, no noise—just the sound of the ocean. It was one of those moments where you realize you should probably do things like this more often.

If you’re looking for a great hike with breathtaking views, check out the Kortum Trail. This coastal trail is an easy walk for most fitness levels and offers some of the best ocean views in Sonoma County.

3. A Perfect Day Trip or Weekend Escape

Whether you have just a few hours or an entire weekend, the Sonoma Coast is an easy trip from the Bay Area. If you only have a day, I’d recommend driving up Highway 1, stopping in Jenner for lunch, and taking some time to explore the nearby beaches and trails.

If you have a couple of days, consider:

Another thing I’d do differently next time is bring a picnic. There are so many scenic spots along the coast that would be perfect for a relaxed lunch with an unbeatable view.

4. Best Restaurants and Cafés on the Sonoma Coast

If you’re a seafood lover, make sure to stop by Spud Point Crab Company in Bodega Bay for some of the best clam chowder and crab sandwiches you’ll ever have. Other great food spots include:

Why You Should Visit the Sonoma Coast

If you live nearby and haven’t made the trip, do it. Whether you want to hike, sit by the water, or just take a break from everything, it’s worth it. I’m not sure why I waited so long to see it for myself, but I won’t make that mistake again.

Final Thoughts

This trip was a reminder that there are great places right in front of us that we don’t take the time to see. The Sonoma Coast has been right here all along, and I just never took the time to appreciate it. Now that I have, I know I’ll be back.

If you haven’t been to the Sonoma Coast yet, go. You won’t regret it.
